Distinguished Alumni
Our department knows that all of our alumni are distinguished. However, Minnesota State University Moorhead and the College of Business have honored George Soule, David Bjornstad and Curt Gudmundson with the Distinguished Alumni Award. We extend our congratulations to each of them.

Curt Gudmundson '69 receives MSUM College of Business and Industry's Outstanding Alumni Award during the 2007 homecoming celebration. Gudmundson started his career in college, first as a rock band promoter and later as owner of Mama Mia's Pizza shops in both Fargo and Moorhead. After graduating, he worked as a loan officer at the Moorhead State Bank. From 1970 to 1978 he flew F-101 fighter interceptor aircraft for the North Dakota National Guard. Later he joined Piper Jaffray as a stock broker before starting Milestone in 1987, a company that serves as a general partner for various investment entities including hotels, real estate development and publicly traded investement partnerships with an excess of $300 million under management. Gudmundson, who lives in the Minneapolis area, is a board member for the MSUM Alumni Association and his wife Pam is also an MSUM graduate. |

On Friday, September 22nd, Economics major David Bjornstad, received MSUM's 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award. Bjornstad, who earned an Economics degree at MSUM in 1969, is a Distinguished Research and Development staff member in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Environmental Science Division, where he has worked for more than 30 years. He is a specialist in economic policy analysis related to science and technology, energy, natural resources and the environment. He is also a senior fellow for environmental policy analyst at Georgia State University and an adjunct professor of Economics at the University of Tennessee. Bjornstad eared his doctorate from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University and once served as an advisor to the Department of Energy's Secretary of Energy Advisory Board. A Moorhead native, he and his wife have three grown children and live in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. |

In October 2005, George Soule ('76 Economics Major) was awarded the MSUM Distinguished Alumni Award. Soule graduated with a double major in Economics and Political Science. He obtained his law degree from Harvard University in 1979 and is currently a partner with Bowman and Brooke in Minneapolis, MN. George's accomplishments also incude: Chair of the Minnesota Judicial Review Committe, named "Attorney of the Year" by Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine in 2000, named one of Minnesota's Top "Super Lawyers" by Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine from 2001-2004, and currently serves at president of the Minnesota Native American Bar Association.
