Economists have influenced the lives of billions of people all over the world. Their efforts to apply economic concepts to better the lives of people have provided the foundation for governmental reform and business growth across the globe. Day after day, government policy decisions and business strategies are influenced by the economic principles and the advice of skilled economists.
Our major provides a solid foundation of economics and gives each student the flexibility to tailor coursework to fit their interests: whether it is business, law, education, international affairs, public policy, finance or research. Economics majors often combine their degree with another major or minor, such as management, political science, math or accounting. An Economics major is also excellent preparation for law school and other graduate programs.
MSUM Economics majors gain practical, in-depth research experience by working collaboratively with faculty and peers. Undergraduate research has been a hallmark of our department for some time, with students successfully being published in peer-reviewed journals, and attending and presenting at state, regional and national conferences such as Undergraduate Research and Mentoring, Eastern Economics Association, Undergraduate Scholarly and Creative Activity as well as our own Student Academic Conference.
