2008 SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Thousands of small steps by the friends of Dragon Athletics will add up to one giant step for the program. The regional business community has the opportunity to create win-win partnerships with this event. Sponsorship dollars will go to the Dragon Athletic Scholarship Fund. In return corporate partners will be promoted during the event and by the Dragon Athletic Department throughout the 2008-09 athletic year. Sponsorship levels off er a variety of options for creating a partnership with the Fargo-Moorhead’s only NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic program.

DRAGON FACTS

A LITTLE BIT EXTRA
Participating in Dragon Athletics gives student-athletes the little extra that is the diff erence between ordinary and extraordinary. Being immersed in a culture that promotes pride, resilience, integrity, dedication, and excellence; Dragon student-athletes have honed their soft skills in a competitive public environment preparing them to succeed in life after intercollegiate athletics.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
The Dragons host over 75 home athletic events every year as well as youth tournaments, camps, and clinics that bring in opponents, offi cials, fans and participants from around the region. These visitors to Fargo Moorhead make a direct economic impact on our community.

VARSITY SPORTS
MSUM off ers 16 varsity sports. Over 330 student-athletes compete on teams. The ages of Dragon student-athletes ranges from 18-31.

UNIVERSITY LIFE
With an enrollment of about 7500 students MSUM off ers nationally accredited programs in more than 100 majors and empahses.

LOCAL STUDENT ATHLETES
Over 84% of Dragon studentathletes are from Minnesota and North Dakota.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS
During the 06-07 academic year the athletic department GPA was 3.006. This fall alone 27 Dragon studentathletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic team.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & SERVICE
Dragon coaches and administrators buy into the Division II focus on community engagement. Studentathlete volunteer activities include working with the Dorothy Day House, Habitat for Humanity, Roger Maris Cancer Center, local service clubs and regional elementary schools. Scorch’s Lunch Bunch sponsored by Stop-N-Go annually brings over 350 elementary students into Nemzek Hall to interact with Dragon studentathletes and visit about the importance of going to school. At the same time the Dragon Swim School hosts about 500 parents and children per week with its swimming lesson program.

WHAT IS NCAA DIVISION II?

NCAA I CHOOSE DII

LIFE IN THE BALANCE
As a Division II school, the emphasis for our student-athlete’s experience is a comprehensive program of learning and development in a personal setting. Our approach provides growth opportunities through academic achievement, learning in high-level athletic competition and development of positive societal attitudes in service to community. The balance and integration of these diff erent areas of learning opportunity provide our student-athletes a path to graduation while cultivating a variety of skills and knowledge for life ahead.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Division II features unparalleled opportunity for student-athletes to advance to national championship competition.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Many Division II student-athletes pay for school through a combination of scholarship money, grants, student loans and employment earnings.

COACHES ARE TEACHERS
Many Division II coaches perform other jobs or functions at their instructions, including teaching.

INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL
Most Division II athletics programs are fully integrated into the institution’s operations and budget, like other academic departments.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Division II focuses on community partnerships such as Habitat for Humanity, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and also promotes a national community engagement initiative.

REGIONALIZATION
Division II rewards the scheduling of local or regional opponents in the regular season resulting in limited missed class time for our student-athletes and traditional rivalries with regional institutions.
