GO DRAGONS!

As our winter sports seasons kicks off GO DRAGONS! is the first thought that comes to mind.  It was an unbelievable fall for Dragon Athletics.  Let me share some information with you to put it into perspective.  The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference sponsors five championships MSUM competes in during the fall season.  The Dragons played in four of those championships and won two of them.

To be more specific the men's and women's cross country teams brought home the hardware.  At the same time Coach Bulock's soccer team advanced to the championship game and fell by a goal while Coach Blake's volleyball team beat the #3 ranked team in the country to advance to the championship match of the volleyball tournament.

The fall season officially ended with the NSIC Metrodome Classic football game.  About 170 people attended the pre-game party and got warmed up for the game.  The Dragons got off to a slow start but heated up as the football team ended their season with a bang by scoring 28 points in 10 minutes to seal the victory.  Although our final record wasn't what we wanted, our program continues to grow and improve.

Our student-athletes have also contributed off the field. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a Halloween Dance to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  On Halloween night they took it to the next level by trick-or-treating for canned goods which they then donated to the Dorothy Day Food Pantry.  We also kicked off  Scorch's Lunch Bunch  sponsored by Stop-N-Go.  The program brings local elementary students into MSUM's athletic facilities to spend time iwth our student-athletes.  While on campus the kids eat with our student-athletes, get tours and engage in a variety of educational activities.

In the meantime Dragon Fire continues to work to improve Dragon Athletics.  We have started working on the 2008 Walk-a-Thon and are looking forward to a record breaking event.  A schedule of Dragon Fire events can be found to the left on the events link.

Now you know why I say GO DRAGONS!  This fall there has been lots to cheer about and I am expecting the same this winter.

See you at the games and events!
