Dr. Rhonda Ficek

Computer Science

Dr. Rhonda Ficek is currently the director of Instructional Technology at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She assists with the integration of technology into the educational environment, and has offered numerous workshops and presentations related to instructional technology.
Dr. Ficek has a masters and Ph.D. in Computer Science. She holds undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Music. Dr. Ficek has more than 20 years of teaching experience, both in higher education and in the K-12 environment, where she taught high school mathematics and music for grades 5-12.
Dr. Ficek initiated the design and development of the "Teaching and Learning with Technology" certificate program during the fall semester of 1999. She is committed to using technology effectively in instruction, and to exploring new and innovative techniques.
Dr. Ficek has extensive experience working with K-12 teachers. Several years ago, she developed a graduate course called Teaching with Technology for area K-12 teachers. She has worked with elementary teachers to incorporate web-based lesson plans into the K-6 curriculum. Dr. Ficek worked with area junior high instructors to develop a student technology team, which created a web-based geography mapping self-test environment.



Timothy Harms

MA, Mathematics

Tim Harms

Timothy Harms received his Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Minot State University and his Bachelors of Science in Math Education from North Dakota State University. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Education Foundations Research with a minor field of study in Mathematics Education from the University of North Dakota.
Harms is the assistant professor of Mathematics Education at Minnesota State University Moorhead teaching Secondary Math Methods and supervising student field experience. He has taught workshops for teacher education as well as assisted faculty and students in the integration of technology. Timothy has team taught graduate workshops in the Calculator Based Laboratory System in Mayville, Exploring the Internet in Math and Science in Bismarck and Math Software among others.
Harms has secondary teaching experience as a math instructor and as a special needs and home bound tutor in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Timothy has spoken at many professional workshops including Teachers of Mathematics Conferences, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Conferences, and ND Education Association Instructional conferences.
Timothy has co-authored professional publications in the science and mathematics area. He has written and received technology grants. His latest was written with Paul Beare, Rhonda Ficek, George Davis and Mary Worner for the Capacity Building Grant for Technology Integration in Moorhead State's Teacher Education program. This grant was for $153,000 from the U.S. Department of Education in 1999.


Dr. Peggy S. Rittenhouse

Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Policy

Peggy S. Rittenhouse holds a doctorate in Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Policy. She teaches reading, language arts, and children's literature courses at MSUM. She has worked as a classroom teacher and reading consultant. Her research interests include children's literacy development, the use of technology in teaching and learning about literacy, and policy issues regarding literacy instruction.
