Who is the certificate program for?

  • Undergraduate

    • Teacher education students or students in related fields

    • K-12 teacher aides or technical support personnel

  • Graduate

    • Practicing K-12 teachers and administrators

    • Graduate students in education and related disciplines

    • Higher education faculty & administrators


What prior knowledge is required before I enroll in these courses?

There is no previous technical experience necessary to enroll in these courses.


What are the technical requirements for the certificate courses?

  • CD ROM drive

  • Local technical support

  • Netscape 3.0 or higher (or) Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher

  • Email and Internet/Web access


What are the admission requirements?

  • Undergraduate certificate

    • Admission to MSUM - teacher education or related major

    • Sophomore or Junior standing

    • Work experience in an educational setting (for non-degree seeking students)

  • Graduate certificate

    • Admission to MSUM as a graduate special or to an MSUM graduate program


Can I take courses without enrolling in the certificate program?

Yes, courses may be taken without enrolling in the certificate program.  Certificate program students have priority when enrolling in courses; however, there will be a limited number of openings for students not enrolled in the certificate program.


What is the cost?

Cost of the courses will be the current
MSUM tuition and fees.


Do any of these count towards a degree program?

Yes, there is both undergraduate and graduate credit available which may be appropriate electives for undergraduate students as well as for graduate students in education and related disciplines.  (Note -- Five elective credits may count toward the MSUM Curriculum and Instruction masters program and seven elective credits may count toward the Tri-College Educational Administration/Leadership masters or specialist programs.  Courses must be part of an approved program of study.)


Where are the classes held?

Classes will be online and some partially on the campus of MSUM.  The two credits typically require no more than 16 hours on campus, with the rest of class time covered through students learning both online and via CD ROM materials.


How long will it take to complete the coursework?

Coursework can be completed in a little over one year or may take up to two years, depending on the student's availability to take classes.
