FAQ

Who are the licensures for?

Individuals who currently hold a Minnesota special education license, or who are eligible for a Minnesota special education license, may be able to acquire an additional license through a combination of online coursework and field experiences. Exact courses needed for an additional license will vary depending on the license already held.

I want to get a license in Early Childhood Special Education. Can I do it online?

Having a faculty member advise you is the best approach to answering this question. Some course work for this license will be provided online. Contact the Special Education office (218) 477-2297 to speak with an advisor who can provide information about our programs and online offerings.

What are the technical requirements for the licensure courses?

  • Email and Internet/Web access

  • Local technical support

  • Netscape 3.0 or higher (or) Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher

  • All courses listed are offered using the Desire2Learn (D2L) instructional management system.  You will receive information about the D2L system and how to login in an email "Welcome Letter" from your instructor, along with the computer requirements for the course, just before or on the first day of class.

  • CD ROM drive (some classes)

What is the cost?

Cost of the courses will be the current
MSUM tuition and fees.

Do any of these count towards a degree program?

Since these courses are graduate level courses they may apply towards a special education degree as electives.  Consult advisors for more information.

Where are the classes held?

At this time, all courses are online.  Field Experiences and student teaching will be arranged as close to your home as possible.
