ENGLISH 101-LIBRARY ORIENTATION

On the Library HomePage, click on WebPALS to locate Books.  Examine the material on the Library HomePage to find electronic reference materials, access to searching the Moorhead and the Fargo Public libraries, where to find things to do in the community, where to find jobs, etc

 

Do a "Tri-College Consortium" search to find resources in the local area, which are readily available to you with your Student ID card and through Interlibrary Loan. If you do not find enough resources, expand your search to "All PALS Libraries." We can get most books within the PALS system within three to seven days.

 TIP: Search for your topic and add the words "criticism"  or "interpretation" or “biography” or “poetry”  to your search to find scholarly resources. Remember to choose a particular search;  EX.   author search; keyword search, before you begin searching.

To find a list of periodicals on poetry in Livingston Lord Library, type in the term poetry, leave several  spaces, then type in the word periodical.

TIP:  In the library catalog, keep your search BROAD initially. You can always narrow and focus by clicking the LIMIT SEARCH  button .

Interlibrary Loan: When you find a book or article within the WebPALS system, just  click “Submit ILL Request."  If a book or article is not found within WebPALS, try the "Patron Information and Request" button at the bottom of all WebPALS screens.  For assistance, ask a Reference Librarian.

 Part of the Gale/IAC databases suite, the Professional Collection is a custom selection of more than 300 full-text journals for educators that is updated daily and provides 24-hour access from school or home. It offers balanced coverage for any professional educator in the following areas: arts and humanities; child and adolescent psychology and development; drug and alcohol abuse; health/nutrition/fitness; learning disabilities; literature; school law; science and technology; social sciences; and sports/athletic training. 

 EBSCO - Academic Search Premier

This resource contains full text for nearly 3,400 scholarly publications. This collection provides full text journal coverage for nearly all academic areas of study - including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.

Wilson Web-

Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition is a multi-disciplinary database providing the complete content - indexing, abstracts, and full text - from six of Wilson's full-text databases: Standard Catalogs Education Full Text, General Science Full Text, Humanities Full Text, Readers' Guide Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, and Wilson Business Full Text.

 JSTOR Full Text Journals

 Electronic database of full-text back issues of 117 academic journals in the subject areas of African-American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population/Demography, Education, Finance, History, Literature, Sociology, and Statistics. Literature journals include: African American Review; American Literature; Callaloo; ELH; MLN; Modern Language Notes; Nineteenth-Century Literature; Nineteenth Century Fiction; Representations; Shakespeare Quarterly; Speculum; Transition.

 Selected Reference Resources on Authors:

 

 We have many author biographical and literary criticism reference books in the MSUM Library. Some focus on poetry; others on short stories; others on specific genres or cultures. Consult your instructor’s list and assignment guidelines.
