Directory of National Fellowships, Internships and Scholarships for
Latino Youth
http://www.chci.org/student/edpub/edpubframe.htm
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is a national,
nonprofit
educational organization. Our vision is an educated and civically active Latino
community who participates at the local, state, and federal policy decision-making
levels. Towards this effort, CHCI, with the assistance of the Alumni Association,
has published this Directory. It includes very important and useful information for
Latino students and young professionals wishing to finance their higher education
and enhance their educational and professional experience with leadership
development opportunities.
The directory is divided into three sections: fellowships, internships, and
scholarships. For simple use, each section is listed in alphabetical
order.
Participating in fellowship and internship programs enable Latino students and
young professionals to build and develop their leadership and analytical skills.
Such programs expose Latinos to a myriad of academic and professional
environments, and prepare them to be future leaders in their communities. CHCI
can not help but underline the importance and valuable experience Latino students
gain from such educational opportunities.

The
Gilman International Scholarship for Study Abroad-Increased
Funding/Application Open
There has never been a better time to
encourage your students to apply for the Gilman Scholarship. The Bureau
of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State has
recently announced that Congress has approved a Bill that increases
funding for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
from 1.575 to 2.6 million dollars. This significant increase in funding
will enable the Gilman Program to make a minimum of 500 scholarship
awards during the 2005-2006 academic year.
We thank all of you who have supported
the program and the increased funding by encouraging your students to submit
applications, by talking with your state and national leaders about how
important this program is to your campus, by volunteering your time as a
selection panelist, or by promoting the program at conferences, with
colleagues, and in meetings. This is a win for all of us who know the
importance of study abroad and its value to the greater society. Thank
you.
