Mission
The College of Social and Natural Sciences prepares students to engage in scientific inquiry, make informed decisions, pursue career opportunities and benefit the community.
College of Social and Natural Sciences Goals:
1. To provide a strong liberal studies foundation for all undergraduate programs.
a. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will support continued improvement of liberal studies to relate life experiences to scientific inquiry.
b. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will seek support for adequate allocations to improve the liberal studies experiences.
2. To prepare students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for fulfilling and productive careers in the 21st century.
a. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will develop and support comprehensive majors and programs to prepare students for professions and advanced study in the social and natural sciences.
b. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will provide state-of-the-art education in theory, application, and use of technology.
c. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will emphasize its support for scientific research projects, which involve faculty/student collaboration.
3. To develop a university community that embraces diversity and bases relationships in tolerance, civility and affirmation.
a. The College of Social and Natural Sciences educates students in the use of empirical evidence and responsible analysis rather than social and personal bias.
4. To provide encouragement and support for faculty development in teaching, advising, scholarship and creative activity.
a. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will promote optimal student/faculty ratios.
b. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will promote workloads that provide sufficient time for faculty/student collaborations for research and creative activities.
5. To provide service and educational outreach to the region.
6. To request support for personnel, facilities and resources that enhance and compliment academic experiences.
a. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will work toward funding for a new Natural Science Building.
b. The College of Social and Natural Sciences will encourage additional funding to upgrade facilities for educational delivery, acquire state-of-the-art technology and improve facility safety for faculty, staff andstudents.
c. The College of Social and Natural Sciences supports the development of strong academic computer services.
