Session I

Learn to Be a Magician

Amaze your friends and impress your family. Learn the secrets of magic and how to perform magic tricks. A professional magician will guide you through the techniques, principals and presentation skills all great magicians know. Enter the world of illusion and dazzle your audience with breathtaking tricks.

Shape Up!

Geometry can be fun?  Yes, when you use play dough, bubbles and computers to investigate circles, triangles, squares, prisms, spheres and other polyhedrons.  Geometry is the mathematical study of shapes, figures, and positions in space.  It is useful in many careers such as architecture and carpentry.  Come and see how we make it fun!

Create with Clay - Class is Full

Use your imagination to mold a masterpiece. This hands-on class will introduce you to basic clay working skills in a fun and creative environment. You will learn many different hand-building techniques and create your own ceramics.

Book It!

Sure, READING books is lots of fun, but have you ever actually MADE a book?  In this course you will!  You are going to create many different kinds of books, such as flag books, altered books, pop-up books and tunnel books.  You also learn about paper making, marbling and printmaking as you create books by hand.  At the end of the class there will be a gallery exhibit for parents and friends to see your very own hand-make books!

Journey to Greece

Let's get ready to GO GREEK!  In this course you will sculpt a 3D Grecian mask using plaster craft and metallic paint, as well as paint a 2D picture that has movement and repetition.  You'll also get to create your own vase, illustrate with glitter scratch art, and mold small vases out of clay which you will then paint and decorate just like the Grecians did!  At the end of the course, you will display your work in a gallery exhibition for parents and friends to admire!

Grossology

Ewww! It may be stinky, it may be crusty, or it may be slimy, but it’s definitely disgusting!  Come and explore why your brother’s feet are so stinky, if it’s possible to fill a swimming pool with your mucus, and what kind of plants you have growing in your nose. We’ll be exploring these and other fascinating facts and performing really “gross” experiments!

Hola Amigos!

This introduction to Spanish will immerse children with no previous Spanish instruction to the basics. Using songs, games, and art activities, children will learn the Spanish alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers, family members, fruits, and parts of the body while they take a virtual tour of the country of Mexico.

Architect Your World

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to build!  But leave your hammers at home!  In this course, students will use everyday materials and art supplies to build a miniature scale version of the MSUM campus.  Students will recreate the buildings, landscape and environment of the campus by turning one dimension maps and pictures into their own three-dimensional world.

Bubble-ology

Calling all "Bubble-ologists"!!  Join us for tons of bubble fun!  In this fun-filled, science packed course, students combine the natural attraction to soap bubbles with important concepts in chemistry and physics.  Students will engage in imaginative experiments while learning about color and light, aerodynamics, chemical composition, and free exploration.

Rockin' with the Art Stars

8-14 year olds

Monet, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Seurat and Matisse.  Create floral masterpieces, starry nights and animal pictures as you emulate these masters of art.  Learn the art of marbling paper and other techniques as we create a gallery exhibition for parents and friends to admire at class' end.

It's 3-D to Me

Explore the 3D art forms of bookmaking, architecture, sculpting and portraiture.  Create 3D faux metal sculptures of animals and people.  Mold your own face as you create a 3D self portrait.  Display your art works at a gallery exhibit for parents.

Los Galapaguitos

This course will immerse children with previous Spanish instruction to the world of ocean life, beach animals and how they live. We will tour the country of Ecuador and explore animals of the Pacific and other unusual animals of the Galapagos Islands.

MotoTechs - CLASS IS FULL

Charge up your brain! It’s time to get hands on! Boys and girls will get to learn about electricity, motors and simple circuits by actually doing it – safely! During this course students will apply what they’ve learned by building their own motor. They will be ‘shocked’ at how much fun science can be!

Get Green!

Who says it's not easy being "green"?  Despite what Kermit the Frog said, we are going to show you just how easy it is! This course will open your eyes to the wonderful world in which we live and what we can all do to keep it beautiful.  Subjects we will cover include:  Why are plants not only nice to look at but a necessity for a healthy earth?  Why is air and water pollution so bad?  In-class and outdoor activities will allow you to be immersed in the importance of, and how to -- "Get Green"!

WHO-Dunnit

Help! Scorch the dragon is missing! Calling all crime scene investigators interested in cracking this gruesome case. DNA analysis, blood typing, hair and fiber analysis and fingerprinting are a few of the techniques new forensic scientists will use in solving this mystery.

Come and get your hands dirty! Young artists will be on their way to becoming potters by learning and experiencing the beginning skills of throwing on the wheel. Create and personalize ceramic pieces, functional and food-safe for the whole family to enjoy!

Scuba Diving - CLASS IS FULL

10:20am-1:30pm

July 21-24

8-14 year olds

This course is designed to give a basic introduction to SCUBA. Students will receive a PADI Seal Team certification after completing several seal team missions in the pool. Fee includes video, book and certification paperwork. Bring suit and towel.
