Locating Health Lesson Plans: Grades K-6
Located at Livingston Lord Library,
Minnesota State University Moorhead

Lesson plans may be found in a number of ways. Here are a few places to start your search:

1.    Textbooks and Curriculum Bulletins

The Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) has health textbooks and curriculum bulletins designed for teaching elementary students. Look in the teacher’s editions for lesson plan ideas. The newest textbooks in the CMC are in the series entitled Totally Awesome Health.

  1. Health Textbooks — Do a keyword search in WebPALS under health or under your specific topic with the words sample text.  Example:

a.      NUTRITION SAMPLE TEXT

  1. Curriculum Bulletins/Guides from the CMC book collection.  Also, do a keyword search in WebPALS, but add the words curriculum bulletin.  Example:

a.      NUTRITION CURRICULUM BULLETIN

  1. Curriculum Bulletin/Guides from the Kraus Curriculum Development Library.  This is a microfiche collection located in the CMC.  Use the CD-ROM Index to search for your topic.  Search under your topic with the words “lesson plans.”  You may also add the grade level to your search.

2.    Internet Sites

  1. For lesson plans and related health resources, go to Health or Lesson Plans/Teaching Resources. Both of these are part of the CMC web pages.
  2. For more Internet-based lesson plans, use a search engine and search under your topic plus the phrase "lesson plans." Be sure to carefully evaluate this material.

3.     Additional Databases

    a.    ERIC - including Journals in Education and Resources in Education.
    b.    FirstSearch - Education Abstracts
