Resources at MSUM Livingston Lord Library
Curriculum Guides/Bulletins:
A collection of curriculum guides or bulletins are located in the Curriculum
Materials Center (CMC). These are in "paper" and may be checked out. See "A
Guide to Using WebPALS to Locate Curriculum Center Materials" for instructions for
locating these guides.
The Kraus Curriculum Development Library is also available in the CMC. This is an
extensive, up-to-date collection available on microfiche. An index is available on CD-ROM.
See "A Guide to the Kraus Curriculum Development Library (KCDL)" for
instructions.
Historical curriculum guides published by the state of Minnesota are available
from the 1920's through the 1960's. Ask a librarian for assistance in locating these
materials.
As a model for literature curriculum, one of the best is A Curriculum for
English, published by the Nebraska Curriculum Development Center in the mid-1960's.

For models of mathematics teaching, Understanding Teaching: Implementing the NCTM
Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics is available on CD-ROM. The
program is designed to help teachers recognize, understand, and explain the NCTM
Standards. It includes sections on Professional Development, Teachable Moments, and

Curriculum Handbooks. Each handbook provides an overview of curriculum in a subject
area. The following handbooks are available:

Instructional Materials. The following resources are available for determining what
instruction materials is available in subject areas:
- El-Hi Textbooks & Serials in Print
provides a list of textbooks and
related materials by subject area. Each entry includes author, title, publisher, and date.
No descriptions of materials are included. Curric. Ref. 016.3713 E41 1998 (2 volumes).
This is available in a book holder on top of the CMC Reference shelves.
- Brown's Directory of Instructional Programs also provides
information about textbooks and related instructional materials. Each entry includes a
description of the material. The following directories are available:

ERIC. ERIC is an index available through WebPALS. It indexes both Journals in
Education and Resources in Education (a microfiche collection located on 1st floor of the
Library). You can locate journal articles about curriculum, as well as examples of
curriculum. If you use descriptors from the list you've been provided, you may search by
clicking on the "descriptor, keyword" box. You may also check the ERIC on-line thesaurus for
descriptors.
