Suomala,
Karla Rae. Moses and God in
Dialogue: Exodus 32-34 in Post-Biblical Literature.
Ph.D. Dissertation, Hebrew Union College, Jewish Institute of
Religion, 2002.
Dr.
Suomala chose this book because:
“I have
chosen the Ph.D. dissertation of my daughter, Karla R. Suomala, for the
library’s collection in honor of my tenure and promotion. I was especially intrigued by the rhetorical approach used as
part of the research methodology because it relates to my strong interest in
literary criticism within my studies leading to Master of Arts degree in English
(1968) from MSUM. Dr. Karla Suomala
uses an interdisciplinary approach to review biblical and post-biblical prose
dialogues within the Jewish interpretive tradition and dialogues influenced by
this tradition (translations, rewritten bible, rabbinic literature, targums).
This approach includes literary analysis of dialogue to understand the
discussion of power and influence as these concepts were related to the diverse
ancient cultures. “
