“I picked up this book to read during the summer of 2005, with the idea that it would add another small piece to my knowledge of evolutionary biology.  I was in for a surprise.  Carroll eloquently describes the latest information from the fields of developmental biology, molecular biology and evolutionary biology that are helping provide a very understandable explanation for the diversity of life found on earth.  As a biologist and a naturalist, I found this book very inspiring and reaffirmed my love of science.  The color images used in parts of the book were beautiful.”
