Kim, Jaegwon.  Physicalism, or Something Near Enough.  Princeton University Press, 2005.

Dr. Hong chose this book because:

“Jaegwon Kim’s Physicalism, or Something Near Enough is the best reification of the thoughts of this world’s greatest authority in the philosophy of mind.  Kim presents in this book the most sophisticated arguments for the physicalist understanding of our mentality.  When he realizes that a certain area of our mental world may not be approached by the methodology of physicalists, he willingly accepts the limit of his physicalism.  The conclusion of this book is almost amusing but quite indicative of Kim’s philosophical wisdom: "Physicalism is not the whole truth, but it is the truth near enough, and near enough should be good enough."”
