Students participate in regional and national construction management student competitions. MSU Moorhead students have participated in the ASC Region IV CM Student Competition annually for nearly twenty years. CM students have also competed in the NAHB Homebuilders national student competition for several years. This year, for the first time, students participated in the Associated Builders & Contractors national competition.
The CM program has been successful in these competitions. Since 2006, we have placed several times in the ASC Region IV competition:
Construction Management student competitions are valuable learning experiences for students. The panel of judges are industry professionals who actually managed and built the projects on which the competitions are based, so this is a real life experience. During the competition, students are “enlightened” when they have to integrate concepts from the individual CM courses and finally realize they know how to put together a project proposal. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions. Students who have been part of a competition team come back with an entirely different perspective and are more focused.
