$21 Million MSUM's New Science Building Opened Fall 2004

     The construction that started in July 2002, has now reached its final stage. The new building is located between Hagen Hall and Weld Hall and has replaced laboratories at King Biology Hall (Biology Department) and Hagen Hall (Chemistry Department). It meets all state health, safety and building code standards and is furnished with improved ventilation, code-compliant chemical storage, a sprinkler system, fire alarm system, fire-rated egress pathways for labs, and an appropriate ratio of fume hoods to students.

     The new building has five floors and they include:
Basement:  animal quarters; aquarium; and additional space for 4 research labs
First floor:  250-seat auditorium; 120-seat lecture hall; 40-seat classroom; 4 teaching labs with shared equipment/preparation rooms
Second floor (biology)
:  5 teaching labs; 7 labs dedicated solely for student-faculty research; shared equipment/preparation rooms for all the labs; and a radioactive lab
Third floor (chemistry):  6 teaching labs; 5 research labs dedicated solely for student-faculty research; shared equipment/preparation rooms for all the labs
Fourth floor
:  greenhouse and HVAC equipment
