MSUM - Cheer Team

Summer tryouts for the MSUM Cheer Team will be held on August 11th from Noon to 4:00 at Nemzek Hall on the MSUM Campus. Please see Tryout Link for additional information and for a printable tryout application.

What is the Spirit Squad ???

Try-outs are open to MALES and FEMALES. Upon succeeding in spring try-outs, all new Dragon Cheer Team members will cheer for the Dragon football team. Throughout the football season, members will be continuously “trying out” for winter squads—they will be judged on overall ability and work ethic. Members who have the most talent and skills, and who are the hardest workers, will be eligible for Red Squad. Others who have a lot of potential but not as much overall talent will cheer for the White Squad.

*Red Squad:
The Red squad is co-ed and cheers for all home football and men’s basketball games. These athletes are automatically eligible for competition. In order to be considered for Red Squad, potential members should try out in the spring. Only exceptionally high scores in fall try-outs will make potential members eligible for competition. Otherwise, a majority of athletes who try out in the fall will be placed on White Squad if they make the team.

*White Squad:
White squad athletes try out in the spring or fall and cheer for home women’s basketball games. These athletes can still be eligible for competition upon observation of other competition team members or the coach. A majority of freshman members will be placed on White Squad to work toward gaining the skills for competition.
