Job Search Tips for Teachers


  • Know as much as possible about the job requirements before you write your letter of application, complete your application form and finalize your resume. Provide evidence from your experience and training to convince the person(s) reviewing your applicant file that you can meet all of the specified job requirements and more. The most convincing candidates will be invited to interview.  The following is an example of a Minnesota school district's job requirements for an English/Language ArtsTeacher - Middle School/JHS.  Job Requirements:  Demonstrate preparation and commitment to working effectively with students and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; demonstrate preparation, skill, and commitment to providing for the individual learning needs of all students; ability to create positive, inclusive learning environments for all students; skill in using positive, constructive disciplinary approaches; ability to organize and plan for student learning; familiarity with current teaching/learning theories; skill in establishing and maintaining positive relationships; diversity of interests and experiences; willingness to work with extracurricular activities.
