Families USA Social Justice in Health Care Graduate Fellowships

The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice aims to advance social justice through health care advocacy by focusing on challenges facing communities of color. The ideal candidate must demonstrate an interest in health care policy and racial/ethnic health disparities. One must be willing to contribute to social justice work after a year of hands-on, salaried experience as a fellow. The application deadline is February 6, 2009. Villers Fellows work in Families USA's health policy department and assist the organization's efforts to improve access to health coverage for all Americans, especially for low-income and other vulnerable communities. Specifically, Villers Fellows will conduct research on a range of health care policy issues, and write and contribute to publications that are relevant to current health policy debates. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to health care justice work following their year as a fellow. You can find more information, including an application form, on the Villers web site. Newhouse Graduate Newspaper Fellowship and Apprenticeship for Minorities Program
The Newhouse Graduate Fellowship and Apprenticeship in Newspaper Journalism for Minorities seeks students with outstanding qualifications and the potential to make significant contributions to the field of newspaper journalism. It also seeks to increase the number of minority journalists in the country.

A highly competitive program, it provides two generous awards each year to minority students who have majored in subjects other than journalism as undergraduates.

There are three programs at Northern Illinois University to train students to work with children and/or adults with visual disabilities.  Student support is available on a competitive basis.

NCAA Ethnic Minority & Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Program's Scholarship for Careers in Athletics

Awardees of the scholarship must be entering their initial postgraduate studies during the 2006-2007 academic years, and they must be a full-time student at all times while using the award.

Laboratory Fellowships

Emerging Infectious Diseases Advanced Laboratory Training Fellowship: This is a one-year fellowship program designed for bachelor’s or master’s level scientists. Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s or master’s level degree in biology, chemistry, virology, or a related scientific discipline, or completed an accredited medical technologist program. Applicants must be US citizens and begin appointment at host laboratory (local, state, or CDC public health laboratory) following the program timeline. Annual stipend begins at $28,000. Medical insurance and travel allowance are provided.

Number of Fellows: Up to 45 fellows are recruited each year for assignments at local, state, or CDC public health laboratories.
