Suggested Outline For Report By Intern
On His/Her Internship Program

Name of Organization__________________________________________________
Dates From:______________________________To:_____________________________

I.

List the major areas of responsibility to which you were assigned during the program, e.g. review of company manuals on corporate policy; organization structure; operating procedures for the state tax returns, e.g. accounts receivable accounting.

II

Briefly summarize the experiences you encountered in each area listed in Part I. This should include broad responsibilities and not a detailed account of what you did from day to day or hour to hour in a specific department.

III

From the summary in Part II, discuss each area of responsibility that your experiences provided that you can relate to theory and principles as they were taught in specific courses by title. Express your reaction at experiencing the actual observation or the actual performance of this activity relative to the knowledge you had gained previously from your course work. Was it drastically different both in the emphasis given it by management and in the actual performance or exercise of the activity? (This does not ask for a discussion of any area other than those you can readily relate to. Do not force yourself to develop material on what you might think we are looking for or on areas that you have difficulty relating to any previous course work.) This is the most important section of your report. If you have kept a thorough daily journal, you will be able to draw information from it for your report.

IV

Rank your experiences at the firm beginning with the one that was the most challenging first and then continue through the entire listing you have in Part II. It would be best to use a vertical column.

V

Briefly summarize your reason(s) for selecting the area you have chosen as most challenging in Part IV. Point out the highlights of that experience and what it meant to you as a really worthwhile experience.

VI

Summarize your total experiences on the program and comment on the value of the program to you. Did the program give you the type of breadth and depth you expected?

VII

Is there any item including the announcement procedure, interview procedure, acceptance and rejection procedures, orientation at the School of Business, orientation at the firm, on-the-job activities, evaluation by the firm, relationships with supervisors and coordinators at the firm, and other items that you think should be studied possibly revised and improved. If so, list each one separately giving a brief description of the features that were unfavorable, distasteful, inefficient, ineffective, weak or nonproductive.

VIII

(a) As you now look in retrospect at the total program, what suggestions do you have for improvement, if any. Do you recommend immediate change?
(b) What different type of internship program should be made available?

IX

Do you feel that you have earned the credits received based on the quality of the experiences you had? If so, support your position by relating the extent to which you were challenged on the program. If not, state some reasons to support your position and how you think the program could be improved to make it quality.
