Shane Carter, Outside Linebacker Coach
A major source of offensive muscle at runningback for Minnesota State University Moorhead as a senior, Shane Carter returns to the Dragon football family with a new assignment as outside linebacker coach this fall.
Carter ranked second on the club in rushing as a senior with 810 yards and eight touchdowns in 121 attempts, an average rush of 6.7 yards per carry. Carter was second in receiving with 12 receptions for 132 yards and scoring with nine touchdowns for 54 points and returned 23 kickoffs for 607 yards, an average return of 26.4 yards. He ranked 17th in the NCAA Division II for kickoff returns and set a MSU Moorhead single-game record with 139 yards against Bemidji State, including a 87-yard return, the fourth best in Dragon history.
Carter transferred to MSUM from Northern State University in 2002 and played one season for the Dragons. He returned to Northern State to obtain his B.S. degree in Business Management. He spent several years in the investment mortgage business in Minneapolis and also served as an assistant coach with the Twin City Titans, a semi-professional team, before signing on at Minnesota State Moorhead.
A native of Aberdeen, SD, Carter competed in five sports at Aberdeen Central High School and was a first team All-Eastern South Dakota Conference selection and a South Dakota All-State pick. He also served as captain at Central High.
