Jason Sobolik, Assistant Coach
A key component of the ongoing women’s basketball success story at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Jason Sobolik begins his fifth season on the staff this year. During his tenure at MSUM, the Dragons have crafted a composite 76-44 record, advanced to NCAA Division II Regional play three times and claimed a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference crown.
Sobolik joined the MSUM family in 2003 and was promoted to number one assistant in August of 2005. His principal duties include recruiting coordinator, scouting, coaching post players, overseeing the strength program, scheduling and travel arrangements.
A native of Mandan, ND and a graduate of the University of North Dakota, Sobolik spent four years as a teacher and coach at Garrison (ND) High School from 1996-2000. He served as both head boys’ and girls’ basketball coach of the Troopers and guided GHS girls to a fourth place finish at the 1999 North Dakota State Class B Championships. Sobolik also filled a head coaching position with the AAU Shooters during the summer as well.
Sobolik arrived at State after two years as a women’s assistant basketball coach at Bemidji State University. Sobolik was named head softball coach at MSU Moorhead in 2004 and directed the Dragons to a 36-17 finish. He was saluted as 2004 NSIC Softball Coach of the Year. Sobolik coached a USA Select Softball team that captured the Bronze medal at the 2005 Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia.
