LONG, ROEMER NAMED MSUM ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
Senior quarterback Dustin Long and junior cross-country and track standout Ashley Roemer have been voted Minnesota State Moorhead Student-Athletes of the Year for 2007-08. A two-time national Offensive Player of the Year, Long was named the Dragons' football MVP, the Offensive Player of the Year in the NSIC and set a batch of game, season and career passing records at MSUM. Roemer is a cross-country and track All-NSIC Academic selection at MSUM and recently established new NSIC and MSU Moorhead records of 4,755 points in the heptathlon. She has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 800 meters and is currently ranked fourth nationally. . .

RECORD THRONG JOINS TRACK PARTY AT MASANZ INVITATIONAL
Over 800 athletes, a record turnout, joined the festivities for the 28th annual Ron Masanz Invitational track meet at the sun-splashed Ron Masanz Track at Alex Nemzek Stadium on Saturday. In addition, legendary Dragon track and cross-country All-American John Tiemann was honored with the 1500 meter men and women champions receiving trophies in his name. A signature spring event at Minnesota State Moorhead, the Ron Masanz Invitational track meet unfolds on Saturday at the Ron Masanz Track at Alex Nemzek Stadium. In addition, John Tiemann, the legendary Dragon Hall of Fame All-American, will be remembered with the John Tiemann Memorial 1500 Meter Championship for men and women. WATCH OUT FOR FALLING RECORDS
For a second time this week, an established Minnesota State Moorhead outdoor track record evaporated when Sara Julsrud breezed to a time of 62.56 in the 400 hurdles at the Tommie Twilight on Wednesday. Julsrud is ranked 17th nationally. In addition, Anna VanWechel provisionally qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a 4:39.58 clocking in the 1500 meters. ROEMER BREEZES TO VICTORY AT NSIC MULTI-EVENTS MEET
Minnesota State Moorhead junior Ashley Roemer set MSUM and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference records of 4,755 points and claimed the women's heptathlon title at Aberdeen, SD on Tuesday. Roemer's record-shattering performance included a flight of 5-8 1/2 in the high jump. Roemer's mark ranks fourth nationally in the NCAA Division II. Cody Bendickson placed fourth in the men's decathlon with 5,304 points. Roemer, Bendickson and Co. will be on display on Saturday at the Ron Masanz Invitational at Alex Nemzek Stadium. . . Projections for a cold weekend have necessitated changes in the spring sports schedule at MSU Moorhead. A dual track meet with University of St. Thomas, scheduled for Saturday in St. Paul, has been scrubbed. The Dragon softball team departed a day early for Emporia, KS and will meet Emporia State in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, instead of Sunday. Minnesota State Moorhead crowned two All-Americans and placed 13th in the women’s competition at last weekend’s 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at Mankato. Ashley Roemer produced a pair of All-American performances on Saturday and placed second in the high jump, 5-7, and sixth in the 800 meters, 2:13.78. Minnesota State University Moorhead is idle this weekend. MSUM women placed second in a field of seven and Dragon men were fifth in a six-team field at the 2007 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships staged last weekend at Alex Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead.
