| [ 02.24.08 ] DRAGONS' GUSEWELLE CAPTURES NCC TITLE Ann Gusewelle became MSU Moorhead's first North Central Conference individual swimming champion, winning the 100 breaststroke with the fifth fastest time in the nation of 1:05.04 on Saturday at Omaha, NE. Gusewelle's time betters the NCAA DII automatic standard of 1:05.49. Kylie Potter finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke, Barbie Brooks 14th in the 100 backstroke and Sarah Chaussee 10th in 1 meter diving. In the 200 butterfly Lauren Baalman placed 11th, Maren Fruia 15th and Jalaigh Mathis 18th. . . [ updated results ] |
| [ 02.23.08 ] DRAGONS CONTINUE TO MAKE MAJOR SPLASH AT NCC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS - - - Maybe the third time is the charm after all. After failing to qualify in the preliminaries and finals of the 200 medley relay the Dragons capitalized on their last shot in a Friday time trial. Barbie Brooks, Ann Gusewelle, Karena King, and Amy Roness swam a school record 1:47.28 to beat the 1:47.89 required national qualifying standard. There were other highlights as well. Karena King earned All-NCC honors for a third place finish in the 100 butterfly while Lauren Baalman finished sixth. The 200 freestyle relay team of King, Baalman, Kylie Potter, and Alison Moore broke the MSUM record with a time of 1:39.32 and the 400 medley set a new record was broken for a second straight time as Brooks, Gusewelle, King, and Roness combined for a 3:58.56. . . | [ 02.22.08 ] RECORDS FALL, DRAGONS SIXTH AT NCC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS University of North Dakota grabbed the early lead at the 2008 North Central Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Omaha, NE while the Dragons are sixth. Karena King broke the MSUM school record and achieved a NCAA Division II National "B" in the 200 individual medley and also achieved a "B" cut in the 100 butterfly in Friday's preliminaries. The 400 medley relay team of Barbie Brooks, Ann Gusewelle, Maren Fruia, and Alison Moore broke the school record while Brooks broke the 100 backstroke school record with her leadoff split of 1:01.22. The power rankings are derived from the top two times/scores in each event of a typical dual meet. The Dragons top events are 1-meter diving where Sarah Chaussee has posted the top score in the nation and 3-meter diving where Chaussee is ranked third overall.
