MSUM FALLS AT NSIC TOURNEY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NSIC TOURNEY- - - Minnesota State University Moorhead closed the books on the 2008 softball campaign with a pair of losses at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament May 3-4 at Marshall.
RECORD- - - MSU Moorhead finished 18-22 overall and 6-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
COACH- - - Kristin Boyes begins her first year as head coach at MSU Moorhead this spring. Ex-Dragon Kelsey Fehl will serve as assistant coach.
NSIC HONORS- - - Juniors Mandy Adolph and Kari Sagehorn received honorable mention on the 2008 All-NSIC team released Friday night. Lauren Jansson was named to the all-tournament team.
LAST WEEK- - - MSU Moorhead swept Northern State, 14-0 and 6-2, on Monday, and divided a non-conference doubleheader at St. Cloud State on Wednesday, falling 2-0 before closing with a 5-2 win. MSUM finished 1-2 at the NSIC Tournament last weekend. MSUM fell to Winona State, 6-1, bounced Upper Iowa, 4-1, and was eliminated by Concordia University, 2-1.
MVP- - - Junior Kari Sagehorn was named Most Valuable Player at MSUM in 2008. Sagehorn led the club in batting with a .319 average and posted a 9-8 record with a club best 2.41 earned run average.
STAT LEADERS- - - Kari Sagehorn topped the Dragon batting chart with a .319 average, followed by Mandy Adolph, .309, Katie Howland, .302, and Casey Preston, .285. Preston led the Dragons in home runs, 6, RBI, 23, and total bases, 65. Sagehorn is 9-8 with a club best 2.41 earned run average and three shutouts.
RECORDBOOK- - - Julie Vancura exits with career records for games pitched, 127, and strikeouts, 122, from 2005-08.

NEWCOMERS- - - The 2008 MSUM roster also contains junior Kim Rieu (Winnipeg, MB), P, sophomore Lacey Bunkelman (Chippewa Falls, WI), OF, and freshmen Taylor Falk (Ashby), P/C, Katie Howland (Apple Valley), OF, Lauren Jansson (Rosemount), INF, Mara Litzer (Chaska), P/OF, Jessica Mroz (North St. Paul), INF, Simone Parcells (Victoria), 2B, Katlin Stein (Mendota Heights), C., and MacKenzie West (Alexandria), 3B.
SUBTRACTIONS- - - The Dragons must find replacements for Kelsey Fehl (3B), Sarah Hendrickson (OF), Holly Kitchen (OF), Kara Martyn (OF) and Jesseca White (2B). Fehl, Hendrickson and White received all-conference endorsements last spring.
BY THE NUMBERS- - - Meghan Powers led MSUM in batting last spring with a .355 average, followed by Holly Kitchen, .341, Sarah Hendrickson, .340, Kelsey Fehl, .333 and Jessica White, .331. Powers also led the Dragons in runs scored, 36, base hits, 61, and tied for the most at bats, 172. Julie Vancura posted a 19-8 record with a 2.30 earned run average and a record 228 strikeouts while Kari Sagehorn was 12-11 with a 3.68 ERA.
NEXT- - - MSU Moorhead completed the 2008 season at the NSIC Tournament.
