MSUM CLOSES SOCCER SEASON WITH 1-0 PLAYOFF LOSS TO MARY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SCHEDULE
- - - Minnesota State University Moorhead closed the 2007 soccer season with a 1-0 loss to University of Mary in the championship round of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Final Four in Aberdeen, SD on Sunday.

COACH- - - Rollie Bulock completed his ninth season as head coach at MSU Moorhead this fall. Dragon assistant coaches included Kim Boelke Holmes and Dan Dougherty.

RECORD- - - MSU Moorhead finished 9-12-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

LAST WEEK- - - MSU Moorhead ambushed number three seed Upper Iowa 1-0 on Wednesday in the opening round of the 2007 NSIC Playoffs at Fayette, IA and stunned host Northern State 0-0 2 OT (6-5) in a shutout on Saturday. Mary ended the Dragons’ magic run with a 1-0 victory on Sunday. Richelle Ross scored the lone goal against UIU while Alison Wanner posted a shutout in goal.

ALL-TOURNEY- - - Three Dragons—junior mid Richelle Ross, sophomore forward Jena Reed and freshman goalkeeper Alison Wanner—were named to the 2007 All-NSIC Tournament team.

SCORING LEADERS- - - Freshman Tricia Vanyo led the Dragons in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists while Jena Reed was second with 14 points.

RED CROSS- - - Junior Abby Barker and Katie Hiemstra are shelved for the season with knee injuries.

LAST YEAR- - - MSU Moorhead finished 4-11-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the NSIC in 2006.

LETTERWINNERS- - - The Dragons’ current roster of 28 players includes 12 letterwinners—juniors Abby Barker (Fergus Falls), Hayley Gulayets (Calgary, ALB), Katie Hiemstra (Pierre, SD), Jillian Hoppe (St. Cloud), Andrea Pearson (Champlin), Richelle Ross (Calgary, ALB) and Sarah Toward (Isanti), and sophomores Victoria Coursen (Sterling, AK), Amanda Meyer (West St. Paul), Jena Reed (Lino Lakes), Ashley Rietz (Walcott, IA) and Katie Wiese (Mankato).

NEW FACES- - - The balance of the Dragons’ 2007 roster includes sophomore Megan Reberg (Fargo, ND) and freshmen Katherine Adams (Circle Pines), Rachel Branson (Appleton, WI), Clare Dozier (St. Cloud), Kirsten Jacobse (St. Paul), Laura Kohtala (Appleton, WI), Aimee Laurencelle (Fairbanks, AK), Shanele Lundahl (Laramie, WY), Sarah Lipetzky (Bismarck, ND), Joelle Rolfs (Andover), Amanda Schlosser (Alexandria), Rachel Thompson (Quincy, IL), Tricia Vanyo (Moorhead), Angela Walsh (New Ulm) and Alison Wanner (Mandan, ND).

CAPTAIN- - - Junior Abby Barker will serve as captain in 2007.

NEXT- - - MSUM closed its season with a 1-0 loss to University of Mary at the NSIC Championship finals.
