WALDEN REPEATS AS MSUM WOMEN’S BASKETBALL MVP

For a second straight season guard Katie Walden has been named the Most Valuable Player at Minnesota State University Moorhead. A junior at MSUM and a three-year starter, Walden was also presented the Dragon Award by women’s basketball coach Karla Nelson.
Walden averaged 9.3 ppg as a junior and moved into seventh place on the Dragon career chart with 259 lifetime assists.
Senior center Jessica Fesenmaier was named Offensive Player of the Year while senior forward Shelly Soule was named Defensive Player of the Year. Fesenmaier averaged 15.5 ppg as a senior and climbed to second place with 1,485 career points at MSUM. Sophomore Alison Nash-Gerlach won the Sixth Player of the Year award while freshman Jenny Theisen was honored as Newcomer of the Year.
Chris Falzon, Tiffany Kline, Allison Swenson and Walden received the Dragon Academic Excellence Award. A four-year starter, Swenson was named winner of the Windex Award, Walden earned the Pick Pocket Award and shared the Hard Wood Award with Swenson. Krista Opheim earned the Table Setter Award.
