DRAGONS SIGN TWO MORE BASKETBALL RECRUITS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 1, 2008

Minnesota State University Moorhead head men’s basketball coach Stu Engen has announced the signing of Chukwudi Anakwenze of Inglewood, CA and Jerome Nelson of Cincinnati, OH.

Anakwenze, 6-5, helped Patterson (NC) Prep post a 34-4 record.

Nelson, 6-3, averaged 14. ppg and 6.0 rpg at Princeton High School in Cincinnati and helped Harmony (OH) Prep to a 32-2 record this winter.

Anakwenze and Nelson join a recruiting class that includes 6-2 Jordan Driscoll of Moorhead High School and 7-0 Zack Peterson of Osseo High School.

MOORHEAD PREP STAR SIGNS WITH DRAGONS

Minnesota State University Moorhead head men’s basketball coach Stu Engen has announced the signing of Jordan Driscoll of Moorhead High School.

The Spuds’ career scoring leader with 1,651 points, Driscoll was a member of the Minnesota All-Star series as a senior and set a Moorhead High single season record with 643 points. Captain-elect of the Spuds, Driscoll was also named to the Minnesota All-State Academic team.

Jordan joins his cousin Jake Driscoll in the MSUM program. His father Jim was a starting guard for the Dragons. Last week Engen announced the signing of 7-0 Zach Peterson of Osseo High School.

OSSEO PREP STAR SIGNS WITH DRAGONS

Minnesota State University Moorhead head men’s basketball coach Stu Engen has announced the signing of Zach Peterson of Osseo High School.

A three-time all-conference selection for the Orioles, Peterson led Osseo High to a 28-1 finish this winter. He closed his prep career with 1,044 points, 597 rebounds and 145 blocked shots. He reached single game highwater marks of 28 points and 16 rebounds against Andover High School as a junior.

Peterson, 7-0, 315 pounds, served as captain-elect of the Orioles as a senior.

MSU MOORHEAD MEN CLOSE WITH 92-50 LOSS AT NORTHERN STATE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 3, 2008

SCHEDULE- - - Minnesota State University Moorhead completed its season with a 92-50 loss at Northern State University on Saturday night in the opening round of the 2008 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament.

RECORDS- - - MSU Moorhead finished 14-14 overall and 7-11 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

COACH- - - Stu Engen, in his sixth season as head coach at Minnesota State Moorhead, is 82-87 with the Dragons and 286-195 overall in 17 seasons as a head coach. Engen is assisted by Jason Beschta and Luke Herbert.

BROADCAST- - - Dragon basketball games are broadcast over 1660 ESPN radio. Steve d'Eustachio will handle the play-by-play. All Dragon games are also available on the World Wide Web at www.msumdragons.com.

LAST WEEK- - - Northern State closed the books on the 2007-08 MSU Moorhead campaign with a 92-50 victory over MSUM in Aberdeen, SD on Saturday in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament. Craig Williams led the Dragons in scoring with 21 points in his final appearance.

TOURNEY HISTORY- - - MSU Moorhead is 2-10 in NSIC Tournament appearances.

BURGESS HONORED- - - Justynn Burgess was named co-winner of the NSIC Newcomer of the Year in 2007-08.

ADIOS- - - Three Dragon seniors—center Kyle Nelson, injured guard Blake Strouth and senior guard Craig Williams---made their final home appearance February 23

RED CROSS- - - Blake Strouth was lost for the season with an ankle injury suffered in a 75-58 victory at Minnesota, Crookston February 1.

NSIC STATS- - - Jamal O’Neal ranked third on the final NSIC statistical chart for minutes played, 32.22, and fourth for rebounding, 7.1. Kyle Nelson was third in blocked shots, 1.50.

STROUTH JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB- - - Blake Strouth became the newest member of the 1,000 point club at MSU Moorhead December 8 with 14 points in the 70-49 victory over Minnesota, Crookston to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Strouth has scored 1,137 points in four seasons at State.

INCUMBENTS- - - Head coach Stu Engen retains eight lettermen, including seniors Lee Isaacson (Eden Prairie), 6-6, Kyle Nelson (Buxton, ND), 6-9, Blake Strouth (Alexandria), 6-1, and Craig Williams (New Orleans, LA), 6-2, juniors Grant Fossum (Plymouth), 6-0, Jamal O’Neal, (Winston-Salem, NC), 6-5, and Kyle Price (Osakis), 6-6, and sophomore Dwayne Hardy, Jr. (Richfield), 6-5.

NEW FACES- - - Imports figure prominently in Dragon plans, including junior Justyn Burgess (Minneapolis), 6-3, sophomore Andy Thompson (Wausau, WI), 5-11, and freshmen Marijan Bagaric (Republic of Croatia), 6-6, Sheldon Bjorgaard (Abbotsford, BC), 5-10, Jake Driscoll (Glyndon), 5-11, Chad Thompson (Wausau, WI), 6-1, and Andrew Van Havermaet (Hawley), 6-4.

NSIC POLL- - - Winona State, the defending league champion and national runnerup, was installed as the pre-season title choice in the 2007-08 NSIC Coaches’ pre-season poll. The Warriors attracted nine first place votes and 90 points, followed by Northern State (81), Southwest Minnesota State (69), MSU Moorhead (66), Wayne State (57), Concordia (51), University of Mary (42), Bemidji State (32), Upper Iowa (30) and Minnesota, Crookston (22).

LAST YEAR- - - MSU Moorhead finished 13-15 overall and 8-10 in the NSIC in 2006-07.

STROUTH COLLECTS ALL-NSIC HONORS- - - As a junior Blake Strouth was named to the 2006-07 All-NSIC second team. Strouth was a third team pick as a sophomore.

THEFT KING- - - Blake Strouth had 59 steals last winter to hike his career harvest at MSUM to 175, a Dragon career record.

NEXT- - - MSUM Moorhead finished 14-14 overall and 7-11 in the NSIC in 2007-08.
