NCAA - Division II / NSIC SAAC
MSUM SAAC MISSION STATEMENT
MSUM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will encourage the enhancement of the student-athlete college experience by promoting unity, support and good sportsmanship.Our Purpose is to:
- Promote efficient communication between the Athletic Department Administration, the university community and the Student-Athlete population.
- Design and implement programs which will encourage academic achievement, health promotion, sportsmanship and social responsibility.
- Evaluate and provide suggestion on programs designed to serve the student’s needs.
- Encourage unity, common purpose and camaraderie between teams and among all student-athletes in the intercollegiate athletic program.
- Actively encourage more involvement of the student-athletes on-campus and in the community.
- Promote and support athletics at the institutional, conference and national levels which would include the review of proposed NCAA legislations.
STRUCTURE
Representation and elections
- Each team will elect two representatives who will have voting privileges. At least one representative should be present at all meetings. If a representative is an officer, then second representative should be present.
- All members are elected during the spring semesters and serve for one year. Officers may be elected for consecutive terms to preserve continuity and longevity.
- SAAC holds meeting at least twice per month and can hold weekly meetings if necessary. The executive board reserves the right to meet when necessary.
- Meetings are open to all but only representatives can vote.
Membership
- In no aspect of the SAAC program shall there be any difference in the treatment of persons as a result of their gender, race, ethnic background, disability, sexual or association preferences, age or any other classification that would deprive the person of consideration as an individual.
- Membership is limited to student-athletes who participate on Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Intercollegiate Sport and support teams.
- Members must be full-time students, in good academic standing as defined by the NCAA and MSUM and listed on the official team roster. Failure to fulfill these requirements will disqualify a representative from the council.
Officer
- The officers (executive committee) will be comprised of a President, Vice President-Internal Affairs, Vice President-External Affairs, Secretary and Treasurer.
- Appointment of officers will be done in the spring prior to the appointment of representatives for the New Year.
- A call for nomination will be made by the SAAC advisor. All current representatives and officers are invited to make nominations. Self nominations are accepted.
- In the instance where one representative is nominated for more than one office, the SAAC advisor will consult with the candidate to determine for which office he/she prefers.
- All nominees will be placed in a voting ballot. Each member of SAAC will have one vote. The votes will be tallied and officers notified.
- Announcement and introductions of new officers will take place at the spring athletic awards banquet.
DUTIES:
- Duties of the Executive Officers.
- President
- Presides over meetings
- Acts as spokesperson for SAAC to the community
- Oversees Finance and Facilities Committee
- Serve on Activity fee committee and any other presidential committee
- Vice President – Internal Affairs
- Presides over meetings in absence of President
- Oversee academic achievement and Health committee
- Oversee and coordinate events within the Athletic Department and campus community
- Vice President – External Affairs
- Oversees community outreach committee
- Secretary
- Keeps written records of all SAAC meeting including board meeting.
- Oversees Banquet committee
- Schedule meetings
- Duties of Team Representatives
- Attend all SAAC meetings
- Serve on one of the standing committees
- Serves a team liaison to SAAC
- Reports and discuss agenda items with team members
