DRAGONS ENJOY BUMPER FALL SPORTS HARVEST. . .
Yes, fall was a special season for Minnesota State Moorhead in 2007, chock full of marvelous performances that left the Dragon imprint on the conference, regional and national level. Consider:
- MSU Moorhead captured Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships in men’s and women’s cross-country, and claimed runnerup finishes at the 2007 NSIC Volleyball Tournament and the 2007 NSIC Soccer Tournament. . .
- MSU Moorhead capped a wacky football season with a rousing 41-27 comeback victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the 2007 NSIC Metrodome Classic. MSUM established a batch of team and individual records, but suffered five losses by a combined 13 points. . .
- MSUM pocketed seven first team all-conference awards in football (2), men’s cross-country (2) and women’s cross-country (2) and volleyball (1). . .
- The Dragons were saluted with 12 Player of the Week awards in volleyball (6), football (4) and cross-country (2). . .
- Five Dragons were named to NSIC All-Tournament teams, including Jena Reed, Richelle Ross and Alison Wanner in soccer, and Kelci Guenther and Julie Vancura in volleyball. . .
- Senior quarterback Dustin Long was honored as the NSIC Offensive Player of the Year, and was twice named a FOOTBALL GAZETTE National Offensive Player of the Week. Long left a pile of shattered game, season and career passing records in his wake. .
- MSUM made a major splash on national statistical charts as well. The Dragons were listed on several NCAA Division II team and individual football statistics, including Jabari Taylor’s second place ranking for pass receptions. In volleyball, four Dragons were nationally-ranked and the MSUM finished fourth in the country in digs. . . .
- The Dragons of yesteryear were remembered as well. Six Dragons, including Amy Gernand, Keith Haverland, Lyle Hornbacher, Ray Kavanagh, Scott Oliver and Marc Ryan, were inducted into the Dragon Hall of Fame. . .
