At last. Minnesota State Moorhead will make its official outdoor track debut on Saturday, April 5, at the Euler State Farm/ESU Relays at Fran Welch Stadium at Emporia, KS. The field will include athletes from Kansas State University, University of Nebraska, University of Kansas, Wichita State University and host Emporia State University. The meet begins at 10 a.m. Next Saturday, April 12, MSUM will enroll in the NDSU Open at North Dakota State University.
MSUM MEMOS. . . . . MSU Moorhead placed 28 athletes on the 2007-08 NSIC Winter All-Academic team. GRANT FOSSUM (Plymouth), KYLE NELSON (Buxton, ND) and KYLE PRICE (Osakis) were named from the men’s basketball team while CHRIS FALZON (Dearborn Heights, MI), JESSICA FESENMAIER (Olivia), CYDNEY FROELICH (Bismarck, ND), SHELLY SOULE (Lakeville), ALLISON SWENSON (Halliday, ND) and KATIE WALDEN (Hawley) were named from the women’s team. SCOTT EGEBERG (Valley City, ND), JIM FAY (Hugo), ERIK HEST (Moorhead) and DUSTIN LILLEGAARD (Bagley) of the Dragon men’s indoor track team, KARI BLOCH (Willmar), MICHELLE HANSON (Dickinson, ND), JENNIFER HENSEL (Frazee), MICHELLE JETVIG (Hawley), SARA JULSRUD (Grand Forks, ND), KATIE McRAE (Windom), DANIELLE NORBY (Windom), SARA REBENITSCH (West Fargo, ND), ASHLEY ROEMER (Maple Lake), ASHLEY RIETZ (Walcott, IA), ALISON STREYLE (Mandan, ND) and AMANDA WICKERSHAM (East Grand Forks) were named from the women’s team. MSUM wrestlers BRANDON KOK (Beulah, ND), DUSTIN NAGEL (Hillsboro, ND) and TYLER TUBBS (Chokio) were also recognized . . . . MSU Moorhead will christen the 2008 NSIC softball campaign this weekend with five games at the NSIC Crossover Tournament at Wayne, NE. A Wednesday doubleheader with Northern State was scrubbed because of inclement weather. MSUM will visit Minnesota, Crookston April 12 for a NSIC doubleheader. . . . . The Dragon tennis team, idle this week, returns to action April 9. . . . . Spring football and spring soccer practice begin officially on Thursday, April 3. . . . . Dragon defensive linemen GARY RICHARDS and JON SWART will skip spring football drills to mend from injuries. . . . . . Ex-Dragon AL GOEDEN will receive the State Courage Award at the Minnesota Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame banquet in Owatonna, MN April 12. A former NIC champion at MSUM, Goeden was paralyzed below the waist in a hunting accident but has served as a youth, high school and USA freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling coach. SPENCER YOHE, a former assistant coach at MSUM, will be presented a Lifetime Service Award. . . . . MSUM Moorhead women golfers are idle this week and will join the field for the 2007-08 NSIC Championships at Yankton, SD April 12-13. . . . . KARI SAGEHORN tops the Dragon batting chart after 17 games with a .326 average, followed by CASEY PRESTON, .300, CASEY LINDSETH, .261, and JULIE VANCURA, .261. Preston tops the club in RBI, 11, and total bases, 28. Vancura (5-4, 2.26 ERA) and Sagehorn (3-4, 2.27) provide a solid starting pitching tandem. . . . . MSUM women open the 2008-09 basketball season with a road trip to Metro State (November 15) and Regis University (November 17). . . . . MSUM has unveiled a new athletic website designed by TOM CHALLEY. . . . .
