Buoyed by a rousing performance in Saturday’s 72-55 romp over Winona State University, MSU Moorhead carries its quest of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament title to the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul and Friday’s 8 p.m. semi-final date with host Concordia University. Wayne State College and University of Mary meet at 6 p.m. MSUM, 18-10 overall, needs to run the table and claim the tournament crown to advance to next week’s NCAA Division II North Central Championships. Concordia, ranked eighth on the latest national poll, will land a regional berth even with a loss this weekend. Concordia, 26-2, claimed the regular season title with a 16-2 finish while MSUM was 11-7.

MSUM MEMOS. . . . . Post-season action is in full bloom for the Dragons. Next week MSUM will dispatch seven Dragons to the 2008 NCAA Division II Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Columbia, MO, including divers SARAH CHAUSSEE, KAYLE KOENIG and SARAH WILKER, and relay members ANN GUSEWELLE, KARENA KING, BARBIE BROOKS and AMY RONESS. Gusewelle has qualified in the 100 breaststroke as well, while Brooks will swim the 50 freestyle and King the 100 butterfly. . . . . MSUM men and women will enter the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Mankato next week. . . . . Junior ASHLEY ROEMER won two individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams and sparked the Dragon women to a second place finish at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships. Roemer helped establish four conference records. . . . . Junior TYLER TUBBS, ranked fifth nationally at 174 pounds, is the lone MSUM qualifier for next week’s NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships at Cedar Falls, IA. . . . . Saginaw Valley City pinned matching 4-3 losses on the Dragons in a Wednesday softball doubleheader at the Rebel Games in Orlando, FL. MSUM, 1-5, has doubleheaders scheduled for Thursday and Friday before returning home. . . . . Dragon Associate Athletic Director SYLVIA BARNIER is a member of the championship staff for the 2008 NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championships. . . . . Ex-Dragon football captain SCOTT OLIVER brings his unbeaten Roseau Rams back to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Championships this week. The Rams, 28-0, seek a second straight title. . . . . Alex Nemzek Hall will be the site of a girls’ regional championship game on Thursday when Fergus Falls High School and Detroit Lakes High School meet at 7 p.m. . . . . MSUM has unveiled a new athletic website designed by TOM CHALLEY. . . . . The next Dragon Fire luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, at Courtyard by Marriott in Moorhead. . . . . Dragon basketball games are broadcast over ESPN Radio 1660 AM. STEVE d’EUSTACHIO returns as play-by-play announcer.
