Brady claimed Minnesota State Class A titles for West Central High School in the long jump, 22-9, and triple jump, 46-1, in June while Ogbonnaya captured the Minnesota State Class A 300 hurdles championship for Irondale High School with a finish of 38.51. . . [ 05.26.08 ]MSUM CROWNS NATIONAL CHAMP, FIVE ALL-AMERICANS Minnesota State Moorhead crowned a national champion and decorated five athletes with All-American honors at last week’s 2008 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Walnut, CA. Jennifer Hensel repeated as women’s pole vault champion with a record flight of 13-2 ¼, Ashley Roemer was third in the high jump, 5-9 ¼, and tied for sixth in the heptathlon, 4,632, Anna VanWechel was seventh in the 3000, 9:58.08, and Sara Julsrud was eighth in the 400 hurdles, 1:01.64. In the men’s competition Derik Brugger was third in the pole vault, 16-8. MSUM women were 13th with 21.5 points, their highest national finish, while Dragon men were 34th with six points. . . Derik Brugger soared 16-8 to finish third in the pole vault while Ashley Roemer was third with a mark of 5-9 1/4 in the high jump. [ 05.24.08 ]HENSEL WINS NATIONAL POLE VAULT TITLE, DRAGON WOMEN SIXTH AT NCAA II OUTDOOR Junior Jennifer Hensel soared 13-2 1/4 to capture the women's pole vault title at the 2008 NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night at Walnut, CA. Hensel's triumph lifted MSU Moorhead into sixth place with 14.50 points heading into Saturday's final session. In addition, junior Ashley Roemer blazed to winning time of 2:14.74 in the 800 meters to vault into a tie for sixth place with 4,632 points in the women's heptathlon while freshman Anna VanWechel was seventh in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:58.08. [ 05.23.05 ]JULSRUD, VAN WECHEL ADVANCE TO FINALS AT NCAA II OUTDOOR Anna VanWechel placed fifth in the preliminaries of the 3000 meters with a time of 1:01.03 while Sara Julsrud was sixth in the prelims of the 400 hurdles with a mark of 1:01.44 at the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Walnut, CA on Thursday. VanWechel will compete in the finals at 5:25 on Friday while Julsrud advances to the hurdles finals at 7:15 on Saturday. Jennifer Hensel will compete in the women's pole vault, beginning at 5:20 today while Ashley Roemer completes the women's heptathlon. Roemer was sixth after day one. [ 05.22.08 ]ROEMER WINS REGIONAL TRACK AWARD Ashley Roemer was named a regional honoree for the 2008 NCAA Division II women's outdoor track and field season, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday. Roemer was a triple winner in the heptathlon (4,755), high jump (5-6), and 800 meters (2:15.36) and was a member of the winning relay teams in the 4 x 400 (3:59.88) and 4 x 800 (9:13.36) at the NSIC Outdoor. Roemer was high point performer at the NSIC Outdoor and NSIC Field Athlete of the Year. She advanced to NCAA Nationals in both the heptathlon and high jump. . . [ full release ] |
