Recommended Procedures
Assessment activities should be integrated with
campus operations in a manner that adds value by promoting planning and
goal-setting and by communicating results to constituents. Accomplishing
these objectives will be aided by the following procedures:
-
As soon as possible each academic year, the
appropriate Dean or Director should inform departments and programs of
their status in the review and assessment reporting cycle.
-
Each department, in consultation with the
appropriate Dean or Director, should appoint an assessment coordinator
and/or assessment committee. The coordinator would have responsibility
for creating and implementing the assessment plan and gathering,
summarizing, and reporting assessment results. The coordinator/committee
should consult a wide constituency, including department faculty, staff,
and students as well as the appropriate university administrators, when
dealing with assessment matters. Though an individual or committee may
coordinate programmatic assessment efforts, the department or
programmatic committee will formally approve the assessment plans and
reports for which it is responsible.
-
The SLOAC will be a resource for departments
and programs and SLOAC members will meet with departments/programs as
they work on assessment issues. Programmatic assessment coordinators
should feel free to contact members of the SLOAC for help and assistance
in working on assessment.
-
Members of SLOAC should seek a variety of
ways to educate the MSUM community about assessment and provide
information about the assessment reporting cycle. These methods may
include workshops, open forums, college or department meetings,
newsletters, listservs, etc.
-
Department representatives will meet with
the SLOAC when their plan is discussed. The SLOAC will vote to accept or
reject the plan and communicate any comments or suggestions to the
department and Dean or Director.
