Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee Minutes

September 13, 2007

10:00 a.m.
Livingston Lord Library 120D

Present: Tim Borchers, chair; Ted Gracyk, Cassie Kramer, Jody Mattern, Amy Phillips, Peggy Rittenhouse, Jean Sando, Stacy Voeller, Alison Wallace

Minutes: Moved by Gracyk, seconded by Phillips to approve the April 23, 2007 minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.

Review of 2006-2007 Report: The draft report was reviewed and revisions were discussed. Borchers agreed to incorporated the revisions and send a second draft to the committee for review and electronic approval prior to submitting the report to Academic Affairs.

Changes in Committee Membership:

  • A request to add the position of Director of Graduate Studies to the Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee has been sent to President Barden. It is expected this change will take effect in January 2008 when committees are reappointed.

  • Sando will chair the committee beginning January 2008.

  • Borchers agreed to notify the Student Senate that Cassie Kramer has agreed to remain on the committee and to request that the second student slot on the committee be filled.

Instructional Improvement Grants for 2007-2008: Discussion continued from last spring concerning the purpose of the grants, particularly whether grant requests for equipment, EDD's, or to help departments do assessment is appropriate use of the funds. It was agreed as long as the request is not for personal (faculty) improvement but for programmatic improvement it would be deemed appropriate.

The IIG application directions were reviewed and discussed. Phillips moved. Rittenhouse seconded to approve the application directions with the suggested changes. The motion was approved unanimously.

The IIG application form was reviewed and discussed. Rittenhouse moved. Kramer seconded to approve the application form with the suggested changes. The motion was approved unanimously.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be scheduled near October 31, 2007, the date Annual Assessment Reports are due.
