Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee

Present: Tim Borchers, chair; Cassie Kramer, Amy Phillips, Peggy Rittenhouse, Jean Sando

Absent:
Ted Gracyk, Jody Mattern, Stacy Voeller (sabbatical), Alison Wallace

Minutes: Moved by Sando, seconded by Kramer to approve the April 2, 2007 minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.

Women’s Studies Student Learning Outcomes: Moved by Rittenhouse, seconded by Phillips to approve the Student Learning Outcomes for Women’s Studies.

  • Suggest that SLO #1 be revised to read: Describe the manner in which identities are socially constructed along intersecting axes of gender, race, class, sexuality and ability.
  • Suggest that SLO # 4 be revised to read: To evaluate women’s studies issues utilizing the tools of multiple disciplines (multidisciplinarity) and by moving between disciplines in ways that bring those disciplines together (interdisciplimarity).
  • Suggest that SLO #5 be revised to read: To examine the relationship between theory and practice by applying the knowledge of women’s studies gained in the academy to circumstances, experiences and work outside of the academy.

The motion to accept the SLOs was passed providing the changes are acceptable to the program. Borchers agreed to take the suggestions back to the program.

Review of Procedures and Forms for Next Year: Borchers reviewed the changes made to procedures and forms at the last meeting. Additional changes were discussed and suggested. The procedures and forms will be revised and sent out for final review by the membership prior to being posted to the Assessment web site. It was agreed to set a January 31 application deadline for Instructional Improvement Grants. Further discussion on the Instructional Improvement Grant procedures and forms was tabled to the first meeting in Fall 2007.
