Hagen Hall 107
Present:
Tim Borchers, chair; Ted Gracyk, Cassie Kramer, Jody Mattern, Amy Phillips,
Jean Sando
Absent: Peggy Rittenhouse,
Stacy Voeller (sabbatical), Alison Wallace
Minutes:
Gracyk moved and Phillips seconded to approve the February 19, 2007 minutes.
The motion was approved unanimously.
Announcements:
Borchers thanked everyone for their work over the
past two years. Good ideas were given at the NCA Visit and the Mock Visit
and will be incorporated into assessment next year. Discussion ensued on the
visit and comments made by the evaluators.
Review of
Plans/Reports
International Studies
Plan:
- The plan is new and the outcomes
being assessed this year are not checked.
- Suggest using stronger verbs for
the first four outcomes. The outcomes could also be more specific.
- Which MSUM mission goals are
addressed by the outcomes are not indicated.
- Suggest the rubrics be more
specific.
- The actual assignments need to be
provided.
Instructional
Improvement Grants (IIG): Discussion ensued on
whether grant applications that address improvement to courses not required
in the major should be recommended for approval. SLOAC deals with degree
majors and courses. Courses in Dragon Core should be part of Dragon Core
assessment. Another issue is whether Instructional Improvement Grants are
being viewed as a fund to supplement equipment budgets. It was agreed to
review IIG parameters at the next meeting.
The following Instructional
Improvement Grants were reviewed and recommended to Academic Affairs Council
for funding:
- Athletic Training: Fund request of
$7,488.50
- Communication Studies: Fund request
of $4,962.13
- Economics: Fund request of
$7,223.04 with stipulation that data from ECON 100 only be provided for
students that are Economics major. Data on non-majors should not be
included in the IIG report.
- Exercise Science: Fund request of
$7,500.00 with stipulation that program must provide an assessment
report and data on the cardiac exercise stress testing system.
- Chemistry: Fund request of
$7,422.00
- Mathematics: Fund request of
$7,103.90
- Philosophy: Fund request of
$3,338.90
- School Psychology: Fund request of
$5,953.00 with stipulation that funding is a pilot. If use of PDAs
proves to be beneficial to student learning then students should be
required to purchase their own PDAs. The PDAs purchased under the above
funding could be checked out to students with financial hardship.
Concern was expressed that upkeep of MSUM purchased PDAs would fall upon
the Information Technology office and could be a personnel issue.
Next Meeting:
