PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT ASSESSMENT REPORT
FALL,  1999

No philosophy major has graduated from Moorhead State University since our Fall, 1998 Assessment Report. Consequently, there are no additional senior portfolios to compare with the established baseline of 14 portfolios.

Examination of other assessment devices reveals no change from the Fall, 1998 report. Faculty and student evaluations of courses collected during the subsequent two semesters are entirely consistent with the larger sample examined for that report (a sample of data gathered from Fall 1995 to Fall 1998).

Assessment Plan Revisions

However, the Philosophy Department has decided to change three elements of our assessment plan.

First, we have replaced Data Source 4, Student Evaluation of Faculty, with a new form. It more accurately targets the student learning outcomes that were addressed with this data source. A copy of the new form is attached to this report.

Second, the assessment plan for data source 3 has been revised, so that the instruction "Available for use" is replaced by "To be used by each instructor in each advanced course each term." This change is intended to reflect the fact that participation in assessment of student learner outcomes is not an optional aspect of student instruction. Third and finally, these forms will no longer for kept by individual faculty members but will be collected each semester by the department chair. They will be available with the student portfolios for annual review.

A copy of the revised assessment plan is attached to this report.
