ART
ASSESSMENT REPORT 1999

The Art Department is evaluating student growth and development primarily through the Annual Student Reviews.

Students are also evaluated through significant individual contact with professors within the department, and through advising within the department.

The Annual Student reviews from each student provide a good reference of progress over a four year period which is easily evaluated for strengths and for skills in need of improvement.

Categories within the evaluation criteria which show significant improvement in a four year period are: Creativity, (from 40% to 60% in the excellent range) Consistency/Technique (38% to 49%) Expressive Quality (41% to 54%) Representative Skill (from 38% in the excellent category to 55%) Verbal Communication (56% to 57%) Presentation (48% to 52%) and Overall Progress (45 % to 63% in the excellent category.)

The Art Department has recently added studio credit requirements by decreasing Art History credits (one class) to further enhance studio skills. The BA Seminar class is now optional for BA students, while still required for BFA students. BA students may elect to take the class, but they may use the credits for a studio class. BFA Seminar was recently strengthened in the practical information needed for a student's transition into the working world as an artist upon graduation.

NOTE: Copies of data can be obtained from the Art department or the assessment coordinator.
