Sherry Short , MFA
Assistant Professor of Drawing

Sherry Lee Short received her MFA in Painting with Distinction from the University of Georgia in 1988. Her art portfolio reflects her engagement in both feminist scholarship and activism.

Of her most recent body of self-portraits she comments:
"The portraits invoke what feminist art historian Ruth Iskin refers to as “contesting codes of a multiplicity of gazes.” Self-portraits by women artists have always negotiated the expected territories of masculine agency and feminine passivity.
In my own work, I aim to transgress: to mix my reclamation as a woman artist in a long lineage of woman artists with personal ownership of a masculinist tradition that has been imposed upon me, with a subversion of the same."

Short primarily teaches in the drawing area.
She also teaches BFA Seminar and occasional courses in painting.
