The Art Education program is designed to meet the Minnesota State requirements for teacher licensure K-12. It encourages students to establish a studio emphasis in at least one art discipline and also complete study in the areas of art history, art education methods, education, psychology, and multicultural studies. Three art method classes are required and involve students in the study of: 1) Teaching art in elementary school classroom, 2) Teaching art in secondary school classroom, and exploration of art education careers outside of the school classroom. Number three involves students in on-site experience in the FM area. On completion of all course work, and to qualify for the K-12 teaching license, individuals must student teach on both the elementary and secondary levels; 6 weeks each.
