HISTORICAL SKETCH
The Agassiz Chapter of National Organization for Women (NOW) was organized June 20, 1978. “The purpose of NOW is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men.” The Agassiz Chapter sponsors fair booths, workshops, public meetings that included topics such as women and chemical dependency, reports on the Ripley Alliance, shelter for battered women, and women and employment discrimination. The Agassiz Chapter of NOW was largely responsible for the founding of the Martha Rogers Ripley Alliance for Battered Women in 1979.
