William Dosland Papers (S228)

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
William Dosland was born November 10, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, where he also attended various schools. He attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Dosland graduated from the University o Minnesota in 1954 with a Juris Doctor Degree. He began the practice of law in Moorhead where he joined his father’s law firm.
Dosland was first elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 1959. During his years in office, Dosland was Senate author of several items of legislative interest involving Clay and Wilkin Counties. At the time of his retirement from the Legislature, Dosland served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, chairman of the Senate Finance Sub-committee on Public Welfare and Corrections, and chairman of the Joint House and Senate Committee on Capitol Complex Remodeling.
COLLECTION DESCRIPTION
The William Dosland Papers is a political collection composed of legislative papers from 1959 to 1973. The bulk of the material, however, pertains to the years from 1965 to 1973. The collection is arranged chronologically by legislative session and interim. Within each chronological unit, the papers are topically organized. Generally the collection consists of legislation sponsored by Dosland, newspaper clippings, legislative journals and committee reports, speech materials, correspondence with various state agencies and constituents, agendas, letters of commendations and miscellaneous items. An oral interview conducted in 1990 is also included.
