History @ MSUM
The study of history is central to both the humanities and the social sciences. Historians explore the full richness of human experience, from the greatest achievements the human intellect to the everyday struggles of common folk. Minnesota State University Moorhead's History Department reflects this breadth in its varied courses, which range from antiquity to the present, from East Asia to Minnesota, and across the spectrum of our diverse society.
Career Opportunities
History majors can find rewarding careers outside of teaching. Graduates have gone on to related careers in historical societies, archives, and museums. Others have found that History is excellent preparation for vocations such as law, journalism, library science, the ministry, and government service. Students majoring in History often pursue careers in the business world as well, where they find that the practical skills of careful research, analysis and effective communication they acquired through their educations prove beneficial in any number of careers. Graduate school is a common choice of students, either in History as preparation for university-level teaching and research, or in related fields of study.
