Minnesota State University Moorhead offers a nationally accredited Athletic Training Education Program.The Program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs(CAAHEP).Minnesota State UniversityMoorhead’s Athletic Trainingprogram has established astandard of excellence reflectedin the achievements of itsgraduates. Athletic Training atMSUM is a program ofspecialized study and clinical experience designed to prepare students to take the Board of CertificationExamination (BOC).
The Certified Athletic Trainer
A BOC Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly trained allied health professional responsible for the healthand well-being of athletes and physically active people. Athletic Trainers work closely with athletes,parents, coaches, physicians and other health care professionals. Athletic Trainers’ primary dutiesinclude: injury prevention, injury recognition/management, rehabilitation & reconditioning, administration,education and counseling.
Employment opportunities for Athletic Trainers include: secondary schools, colleges/universities,professional athletic teams, health/wellness centers, sports medicine clinics, corporate/health programs,industrial, and private organizations.
Recent graduates of the MSUM Athletic Training program have been employed in high schools, collegesand sports medicine centers. Several have gone on to graduate school, physical therapy, physicianassistant and medical school.
Athletic Training at MSUM
Students in the Athletic Training Education Program will receive didactic education as well as clinicalexperience working with MSUM’s intercollegiate athletic teams and other affiliated clinical sites under thesupervision of BOC Certified Athletic Trainers. During this supervised clinical experience, studentsnormally participate 20 hours per week throughout the school year.

MSUM’s Athletic Training students have won numerous scholarships since 1990. Awards include:Outstanding Student Athletic Trainers in Minnesota, presented by the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’Association 1990, 1991, 1995; Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association Scholarships 1995, 1996;National Athletic Trainers’ Association Scholarships, Undergraduate 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005 andPost-graduate: 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998.
