Professional Examinations
Professional certification exams available following graduation are: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Exam, and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Exam.
CPA requirements are determined by the state in which the exam candidate resides. Most states have passed legislation requiring candidates complete 150 semester hours of post-secondary education as a condition for writing the CPA Exam. MSUM offers courses to meet the 150 semester hour requirement.
The CMA and CIA certification programs are administered by private organizations rather than by the state.
Certified Public Accounting
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) are licensed by the state or U.S. Territory in which they reside or work. All states require CPA candidates to pass the CPA Exam to become a CPA.
As of July 2000, about 49 states and territories had passed legislation requiring future CPAs to complete 150 semester hours of post-secondary education as a condition for taking the CPA Exam.
