Lab Experience for Natural Science Courses
Description of a minimum Lab Experience for Natural Science Courses:

A laboratory experience gives students an opportunity to experience science by participation in a process appropriate to their field. Students will have at least 12 faculty supervised in the laboratory or field hours during the semester to develop and/or perform scientific experiments or other approaches. Students will participate in at least three of the five approaches:

  • Applying the scientific method in either the lab or field.

  • Learning a scientific technique.

  • Learning the proper use of scientific equipment.

  • Interpreting empirical data.

  • Analyzing experimental results.

Applying the scientific method includes observation, hypothesis development, experimental design, implementation, data collection, data analysis, developing conclusions, and communicating results, in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.

Middle Cluster Prerequisite Policy
