Present: Jean Sando, chair; Ellen Brisch, Tim Decker, Ellen Hill, Rajiv Kalra, Mike McCord, Margaret Sankey, Brian Smith, Stacy Voeller

Minutes: Moved by Hill, seconded by Voeller to approve the August 27, 2007, minutes. The motion was approved unanimously.

Open Forums: Sando reviewed the discussion from the DC 4-7 open forums held: 

  • DC 4: Monday, September 10, 2007, in CMU 205

  • DC 5: Monday, September 17, 2007, in CMU 101

  • DC 6: Monday, September 24, 2007, in CMU 227

  • DC 7: Monday, October 1, 2007, in CMU 101

She noted that a second open forum for DC 4 has been scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on October 10, 2007, to discuss the possibility of using a standardized scientific methods test. Sample tests were sent to faculty attending the first open forum as well as to chairpersons from the respective departments/programs offering courses in DC 4.

Sando agreed to draft a summary of the discussions and the respective assessment recommendations/guidelines for the DC 4-7 and send it electronically for review and comment by the membership.

Revised Foundation Four Course Student Leaning Outcomes: Brisch reported the Dragon Core Committee reviewed the recommended revised Student Learning Outcomes for the Foundation Four courses. Meetings to discuss the SLOs with the respective constituents are being held.

  • DC 1A: October 10, 2007, Communications Studies department meeting

  • DC 1B: English department meet last week, will continue discussion and report

  • DC 2: Open Forum for faculty and interested parties will be scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2007

  • DC 3: The Mathematics department approved the revised SLOs by an electronic vole (12-0-1).

Other: Sando announced that she will be full-time beginning January 2008 due to the assignment of additional duties, including supervision of the Records Office and Advising Support Center, and oversight of Accuplacer testing at MSUM.
